Mold Breaker
Gen IVBypasses targets' abilities if they could hinder or prevent a move.
Mold Breaker in Battle
Mold Breaker allows the Pokemon's moves to completely ignore defensive abilities on the target, introduced in Generation IV. When attacking, abilities like Water Absorb, Sturdy, Levitate, Multiscale, and many others are treated as if they do not exist. The user's entry into battle triggers a notification message alerting all players to its presence.
The scope of ignored abilities is broad but follows specific rules. Mold Breaker bypasses abilities that would negate, reduce, or otherwise interfere with the direct effect of a move -- including immunities (Water Absorb, Flash Fire), damage reduction (Thick Fat, Fur Coat), accuracy evasion (Snow Cloak, Sand Veil), and protective effects (Shell Armor, Clear Body). However, it does not suppress abilities that activate after a move resolves (Cursed Body), abilities that affect the user rather than the move (Shadow Tag, Liquid Ooze), or type/form changes (Color Change, Forecast). Multitype is completely immune to Mold Breaker.
Importantly, the ability suppression only lasts during the move's execution. A Pokemon with Limber can still be paralyzed by a Mold Breaker user's Thunder Wave, but Limber immediately cures the paralysis afterward. Mold Breaker functions identically to Teravolt and Turboblaze. With 20 Pokemon carrying this ability -- including Excadrill, Haxorus, and Dracovish -- it remains one of the most competitively impactful abilities for breaking through defensive walls.
