Comatose
Gen VIIThis Pokémon always acts as though it were Asleep. It cannot be given another status ailment; it's unaffected by Yawn; it can use Sleep Talk; and so on.
Comatose in Battle
Comatose causes the Pokemon to permanently exist in a sleep-like state without actually being asleep in the traditional sense. The Pokemon can attack normally every turn while being treated as asleep for all other purposes. This means it cannot receive any other status condition — burn, paralysis, poison, freeze, and actual sleep are all impossible.
Because the Pokemon is considered sleeping, it can use Sleep Talk freely and will be affected by moves like Dream Eater and Nightmare. Abilities that interact with sleeping Pokemon, such as Bad Dreams, will also take effect. However, the Pokemon is never actually incapacitated by its sleep status.
Comatose is the signature ability of Komala, the Normal-type koala Pokemon introduced in Generation VII. This ability effectively grants permanent status immunity while enabling sleep-exclusive moves, creating a unique niche for a Pokemon that is thematically always dozing.
