Turboblaze in Battle

Turboblaze is Reshiram's signature ability that allows its moves to bypass any defensive abilities that could hinder or prevent their effects on the target. When Reshiram uses an attack, abilities like Water Absorb, Lightning Rod, Flash Fire, and Thick Fat are completely ignored, allowing moves that would normally be negated or weakened to land at full power. The ability also bypasses protective abilities such as Clear Body, which would normally prevent stat reduction, or Wonder Guard, which blocks non-super effective moves. Importantly, Turboblaze only ignores abilities that directly interfere with the move's effect on the target, while abilities that affect the user or have delayed effects like Cursed Body remain functional.

The ability has some notable limitations that keep it balanced. Turboblaze cannot ignore type-changing abilities like Color Change or weather-inducing abilities like Drizzle once the weather is already active. Additionally, it cannot bypass Arceus's Multitype ability under any circumstances. The nullification only lasts for the duration of the move itself, meaning that while Reshiram can paralyze a Limber Pokemon, Limber will immediately cure the paralysis afterward.

In competitive play, Turboblaze makes Reshiram an incredibly reliable attacker that can't be walled by common defensive abilities. This is particularly valuable given Reshiram's powerful signature move Blue Flare and access to moves like Draco Meteor, as players can confidently use these attacks without worrying about abilities that would normally provide immunity or resistance. When Reshiram enters battle, all players are notified of Turboblaze's presence, adding a psychological element that forces opponents to reconsider their defensive strategies.
