Quick Draw
Gen VIIIQuick Draw in Battle
Quick Draw is a unique priority-manipulation ability introduced in Generation 8 that gives Pokémon a chance to jump ahead in the turn order when using offensive moves. When a Pokémon with Quick Draw selects any damaging move, there's a 30% chance it will move first within its current priority bracket, effectively gaining +1 priority for that turn. This means the ability only triggers on attacks and won't activate when using status moves, healing moves, or other non-damaging options.
The ability's activation is determined separately each turn, making it somewhat unpredictable but potentially game-changing when it does proc. Quick Draw doesn't override existing priority rules entirely—it simply bumps the user up within their current priority tier. So a normal-priority move with Quick Draw active would go before other normal-priority moves, but still after naturally high-priority moves like Quick Attack or Extreme Speed.
Galarian Slowbro is currently the only Pokémon with access to Quick Draw, which creates interesting dynamics in competitive play. The ability can provide crucial speed control for a naturally slow Pokémon, allowing it to potentially land surprise KOs with powerful moves like Shell Side Arm before faster threats can respond. However, the 30% activation rate means it's unreliable for consistent strategies, making it more of a momentum-shifting wildcard than a dependable speed solution.
