Vessel of Ruin is a powerful field ability that creates an aura effect reducing the Special Attack stat of all Pokémon on the battlefield except the user. This ability functions similarly to Intimidate but affects Special Attack instead of Attack, and unlike Intimidate, it continuously affects all Pokémon present rather than just triggering upon switching in. The reduction applies to both allies and opponents in double battles, making it a double-edged sword in team formats.

The ability's effect is permanent as long as the Pokémon with Vessel of Ruin remains on the field, meaning that switching out will restore normal Special Attack stats to all affected Pokémon, while switching back in will reapply the reduction. This creates interesting strategic considerations around when to keep the user active versus preserving it for later in the battle. The ability cannot be suppressed by moves like Gastro Acid or abilities like Mold Breaker, as it functions as a continuous field effect rather than a direct ability interaction.

Ting-Lu, the sole possessor of this ability, uses Vessel of Ruin to great effect in competitive play as a special wall and support Pokémon.
