Beads Of Ruin
Gen IXBeads Of Ruin in Battle
Beads of Ruin passively lowers the Special Defense of all other Pokemon on the field — both opponents and allies — while the Pokemon with this ability is active. This reduction is not a stat stage change and cannot be cleared by moves like Haze or blocked by abilities like Clear Body. It functions as a persistent 0.75x multiplier to the Special Defense stat.
The effect applies immediately when the Pokemon enters the field and remains active as long as it stays in battle. It does not stack with multiple instances and is removed the moment the Pokemon with Beads of Ruin switches out or faints.
Beads of Ruin is the signature ability of Chi-Yu, the Fire/Dark-type Legendary Pokemon introduced in Generation IX. It is part of the Ruin quartet of abilities, alongside Tablets of Ruin (lowers Attack), Sword of Ruin (lowers Defense), and Vessel of Ruin (lowers Special Attack). Combined with Chi-Yu's extremely high Special Attack stat, the universal Sp. Def reduction makes it one of the most offensively threatening Pokemon in the game.
