Sand Spit in Battle

Sand Spit activates automatically whenever the Pokemon takes damage from any attack, immediately summoning a sandstorm that lasts for five turns. This weather condition deals residual damage to all Pokemon on the field that aren't Ground, Rock, or Steel-type, making it a powerful defensive tool that punishes opponents for landing hits. The ability triggers regardless of whether the attack that hit the Pokemon was physical, special, or even a multi-hit move, making it extremely reliable for weather control.

The sandstorm generated by Sand Spit follows all standard sandstorm rules, boosting the Special Defense of Rock-types by 50% and providing perfect accuracy for moves like Blizzard when used by certain Pokemon. Importantly, the ability will override any existing weather condition, making it a potent tool for disrupting opposing weather strategies. Even if the Pokemon with Sand Spit faints from the triggering attack, the sandstorm will still activate before the Pokemon is removed from battle.

Competitively, Sand Spit transforms both Silicobra and Sandaconda into excellent weather setters that don't need to waste a moveslot on Sandstorm. This passive weather generation makes them valuable on sand teams, as they can establish favorable conditions while still contributing offensively or defensively. The ability's reactive nature means opponents must carefully consider whether attacking these Pokemon is worth potentially giving them five turns of beneficial weather.
