Magnet Pull in Battle

Introduced in Generation III, Magnet Pull prevents opposing Steel-type Pokemon from fleeing or switching out while the Magnet Pull user is on the field. This trapping effect creates a guaranteed 1v1 scenario against Steel-types, allowing the trapper to eliminate them without fear of a defensive switch.

Pokemon with Run Away can override the trap and escape. Any Pokemon can still switch using moves like U-turn, Volt Switch, and Baton Pass, or items like Eject Button and Shed Shell. Ghost-types with Steel as a secondary typing are still trapped, as the ability targets the Steel type specifically. In the overworld, if the lead Pokemon has Magnet Pull, wild Steel-type Pokemon appear 50% more frequently.

Found on 6 Pokemon including Magnezone, Magneton, Probopass, and Alolan Golem, Magnet Pull defines one of competitive play's most important roles -- Steel-type trapping. Magnezone in particular has been a premier pick across generations for removing key Steel-type walls like Ferrothorn, Skarmory, and Corviknight.
