Lingering Aroma
Gen IXLingering Aroma in Battle
Introduced in Generation IX, Lingering Aroma replaces the attacking Pokemon's ability with Lingering Aroma whenever it makes direct contact with the user. This creates a chain reaction -- any Pokemon that subsequently makes contact with the newly infected Pokemon will also have its ability overwritten, spreading the effect across the battlefield like a contagion.
The replacement is permanent for the remainder of the battle. This can be devastating against Pokemon that depend heavily on their abilities for competitive viability -- Huge Power users lose their doubled Attack, Intimidate Pokemon lose their switch-in pressure, and weather setters lose their automatic terrain control.
Currently exclusive to Brute Bonnet (1 Pokemon), Lingering Aroma functions similarly to the older ability Mummy but with the critical distinction that it continues to spread through further contact, making it progressively more disruptive as the battle continues.
