Snow Warning

Gen IV
Effect

The weather changes to hail when this Pokémon enters battle and does not end unless cancelled by another weather condition. If multiple Pokémon with this ability, Drizzle, Drought, or Sand Stream are sent out at the same time, the abilities will activate in order of Speed, respecting Trick Room. Each ability's weather will cancel the previous weather, and only the weather summoned by the slowest of the Pokémon will stay.

Snow Warning in Battle

Snow Warning automatically summons hail upon entering battle, creating an indefinite weather condition that persists until replaced by another weather effect or manually changed. This ability fundamentally alters the battlefield environment, dealing passive damage to all non-Ice type Pokemon at the end of each turn while also enabling various hail-based strategies and move interactions. The hailstorm continues indefinitely rather than lasting for a set number of turns, making it a powerful tool for weather-based team compositions.

When multiple weather-setting abilities activate simultaneously, Snow Warning follows the standard priority system based on Speed stats, with slower Pokemon's weather taking precedence in normal conditions or faster Pokemon in Trick Room scenarios. This interaction becomes crucial in weather wars between teams running multiple weather setters. The ability works seamlessly with other hail-dependent effects, boosting the accuracy of Blizzard to perfect reliability and enabling Aurora Veil usage for Ice-types.

Competitively, Snow Warning sees its most notable application through Abomasnow, which combines the ability with solid offensive stats and useful typing synergy. The Grass/Ice typing provides unique resistances while the guaranteed hail supports both offensive strategies through perfect-accuracy Blizzards and defensive approaches via Aurora Veil. Other carriers like Vanilluxe can leverage the weather for specialized roles, though Abomasnow remains the most versatile and commonly deployed Snow Warning user in competitive formats.
