Fur Coat

Fur Coat halves all physical damage taken by the Pokemon. This is equivalent to doubling the Pokemon's Defense stat for the purpose of physical damage calculation, making the Pokemon significantly more resilient against physical attacks.

The damage reduction applies to all physical moves, regardless of whether they make contact. Physical special cases like Psyshock and Psystrike, which use the target's Defense stat despite being special moves, are also affected by Fur Coat. Special moves that are not converted to use Defense are unaffected.

Fur Coat is the signature ability of Furfrou, the Normal-type poodle Pokemon introduced in Generation VI. Despite Furfrou's seemingly modest base Defense of 60, Fur Coat effectively doubles it to an equivalent of 120, making Furfrou a surprisingly capable physical wall. This ability is considered one of the strongest purely defensive abilities in the game.
