Symbiosis in Battle

Symbiosis creates a unique support dynamic in doubles and multi-battles by automatically transferring the bearer's held item to an ally immediately after that ally consumes or uses up their own item. This transfer occurs instantly when the ally's item is depleted, whether through consumption of a Berry, activation of a one-use item like Focus Sash, or other item-consuming effects. The ability only triggers when an ally genuinely uses up their item rather than having it removed through moves like Knock Off or Trick.

The ability's competitive application centers around extending item utility across a team. A Florges holding a Sitrus Berry can pass it to an ally after they consume their own recovery item, effectively giving that partner two healing opportunities in a single battle. Similarly, the bearer can hold powerful consumable items like Weakness Policy or type-resist Berries that become available to allies at crucial moments. Oranguru has found particular success with this strategy due to its access to Instruct, which can force an ally to use their item and immediately receive the Symbiosis transfer.

The timing of Symbiosis makes it particularly valuable in longer battles where resource management becomes critical. However, the ability requires careful planning since the bearer sacrifices their own item usage for the team's benefit, and the transfer only works when allies actually consume items rather than simply taking damage or using non-consumable held items.
