Steelworker
Gen VIISteelworker in Battle
Steelworker provides a straightforward yet powerful offensive boost, increasing the power of all Steel-type moves used by the Pokémon by 50%. This damage multiplier applies to any Steel-type attack, whether physical or special, making it functionally equivalent to having STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) on Steel moves even for Pokémon that aren't actually Steel-type themselves.
The ability's most notable competitive application comes through Dhelmise, a unique Ghost/Grass-type Pokémon that gains access to this Steel-type damage boost despite having no Steel typing. This creates an interesting dynamic where Dhelmise can hit Steel-weak targets like Rock, Ice, and Fairy types with unexpected power using moves like Anchor Shot or Heavy Slam. The boost works consistently across all Steel moves without any special conditions or restrictions, making it reliable for both offensive strategies and coverage options.
While Steelworker is currently exclusive to Dhelmise, its effect makes Steel-type moves significantly more threatening than they would normally be from a non-Steel Pokémon. The ability essentially grants Dhelmise a third offensive typing for damage calculations, expanding its coverage options and allowing it to punish opponents who might not expect Steel-type attacks from a Ghost/Grass Pokémon. This unexpected typing combination with boosted Steel moves can catch opponents off-guard in competitive play.
