Sand Rush
Gen VThis Pokémon's Speed is doubled during a sandstorm, and it does not take sandstorm damage, regardless of type.
Sand Rush in Battle
Sand Rush transforms its users into formidable speed demons when sandstorm conditions are active on the battlefield. The ability doubles the Pokemon's Speed stat during sandstorms, effectively turning moderate-speed Pokemon into lightning-fast threats that can outpace most of the metagame. Additionally, Sand Rush provides complete immunity to sandstorm's chip damage, allowing these Pokemon to operate freely in harsh weather conditions that would otherwise wear them down over time.
The ability's competitive impact is most notably felt through Excadrill, which becomes a terrifying offensive force under sandstorm conditions. With its Speed doubled, Excadrill can outrun threats it normally couldn't, turning it from a slow but powerful attacker into a complete sweeping menace. The fossil Pokemon Dracozolt and Dracovish also benefit significantly, as their already impressive offensive capabilities become even more threatening when backed by doubled Speed. Stoutland represents another interesting case, as its Normal typing would typically make it vulnerable to sandstorm damage, but Sand Rush negates this weakness entirely.
Since its introduction in Generation 5, Sand Rush has remained mechanically unchanged, consistently providing the same Speed doubling effect and sandstorm immunity. The ability works particularly well on sand teams built around Tyranitar or Hippowdon, creating natural synergy where the sand setter enables the Sand Rush user to become an immediate offensive threat.
