Disguise
Gen VIIIf this Pokémon is in its Disguised Form and takes damage from a move, it switches to its Busted Form and the damage is prevented. Other effects are not prevented. This ability cannot be copied or replaced. This ability only takes effect for Mimikyu.
Disguise in Battle
Disguise allows the Pokemon to absorb one damaging hit without taking any HP damage. The Pokemon begins battle in its Disguised Form; when it takes damage from a move for the first time, the disguise breaks (changing to Busted Form), the damage is completely nullified, and the Pokemon takes a small amount of recoil equal to 1/8 of its maximum HP.
The disguise only blocks direct move damage. Entry hazards, weather damage, status conditions (poison, burn), and other indirect damage sources are not blocked. Once the disguise is broken, it cannot be restored through any means during the battle. Disguise also cannot be copied by Trace, transferred by Skill Swap, or suppressed by Gastro Acid.
Disguise is the signature ability of Mimikyu, the Ghost/Fairy-type Pokemon introduced in Generation VII. It essentially provides a free turn of setup or attack without fear of being knocked out, making Mimikyu an excellent sweeper with moves like Swords Dance. The 1/8 HP cost upon breaking was added in Generation VIII to balance the ability.
