Misty Surge
Gen VIIWhen this Pokémon enters battle, it changes the terrain to Misty Terrain.
Misty Surge in Battle
Misty Surge automatically sets Misty Terrain upon the Pokemon's entry into battle, introduced in Generation VII. The terrain lasts for 5 turns (or 8 turns if the holder carries a Terrain Extender), covering the field with a protective mist that halves the power of Dragon-type moves against grounded Pokemon and prevents all grounded Pokemon from being afflicted by status conditions or confusion.
The terrain does not affect non-grounded Pokemon (those with Levitate, Flying-type, or holding an Air Balloon), and it will be overwritten if another terrain-setting move or ability activates afterward. Misty Surge follows the standard terrain priority rules -- if two Pokemon with terrain abilities enter simultaneously, the slower one's terrain takes precedence.
Misty Surge is the signature ability of Tapu Fini, the Water/Fairy guardian deity of Poni Island. In competitive play, it serves as both a defensive tool against status-heavy teams and a Dragon-type check, though the halved Dragon damage only benefits grounded allies. The automatic terrain set on switch-in makes Tapu Fini a premiere anti-status pivot.
