Emergency Exit in Battle

Emergency Exit forces the Pokemon to switch out immediately after its HP is reduced below 50% by a direct attack. The switch occurs automatically and is not optional — the trainer must select a replacement Pokemon, and the switch happens at the end of the turn.

The forced switch functions like fleeing from battle and is triggered only when HP crosses the 50% threshold. If the Pokemon is already below half HP, further damage will not trigger the ability again. Entry hazards like Stealth Rock that reduce HP below 50% upon switching in will also trigger Emergency Exit, potentially creating an immediate switch-out loop if hazards remain on the field.

Emergency Exit is the signature ability of Golisopod, the Bug/Water-type Pokemon introduced in Generation VII. It functions identically to Wimp Out (Wimpod's ability). While it can disrupt offensive momentum by forcing Golisopod out mid-attack, it can also be used strategically to pivot out and preserve Golisopod for later while bringing in a teammate.
