Neutralizing Gas
Gen VIIIWhile the Pokémon is in the battle, the effects of all other Pokémon’s Abilities will be nullified or will not be triggered.
Neutralizing Gas in Battle
Neutralizing Gas suppresses the abilities of all other Pokemon on the field for as long as the holder remains in battle, introduced in Generation VIII. Upon entry, all active abilities are immediately nullified -- passive effects stop, triggered effects cannot activate, and ability-dependent immunities are removed.
The suppression is comprehensive: Intimidate users cannot lower Attack, Levitate users lose Ground immunity, Weather-setting abilities are disabled, and even abilities like Multitype are affected while Neutralizing Gas is active. When the Neutralizing Gas user switches out or faints, all suppressed abilities reactivate immediately, and any on-entry abilities (like Intimidate or Drizzle) trigger as if their holders just entered battle. In Generation IX, the wording was updated to clarify that only other Pokemon's abilities are affected, not the user's own.
Neutralizing Gas is found on 2 Pokemon: Weezing and its Galarian form. In competitive play, it creates powerful disruption opportunities -- removing defensive abilities like Multiscale or Fur Coat before attacking, or shutting down ability-reliant strategies like weather teams or Unaware walls. However, the user must stay on the field for the suppression to persist, making it vulnerable to forced switches or KOs that immediately restore opponents' abilities.
