Wind Power in Battle

Wind Power is a reactive ability introduced in Generation 9 that transforms defensive situations into offensive opportunities. When a Pokémon with this ability is struck by any wind-based move, it becomes "charged," which doubles the power of its next Electric-type attack. This creates an interesting dynamic where moves like Hurricane, Air Slash, Tailwind, and even Gust can inadvertently power up the opponent's Electric-type arsenal.

The ability works as a one-time boost that must be reactivated by taking another wind move after the charged Electric attack is used. This means strategic players can potentially bait wind moves or position themselves to benefit from common Flying-type attacks in the metagame. The boost applies to any Electric-type move, whether it's a physical attack like Thunder Punch or a special move like Thunderbolt, making it versatile for different movesets.

Competitively, Wind Power is most notably seen on Kilowattrel and its pre-evolution Wattrel, both Electric/Flying types that can leverage this ability in unique ways. Since these Pokémon are Flying-types themselves, they're often in matchups against other Flying-types, creating natural opportunities for Wind Power to activate. The ability adds an element of risk-reward calculation for opponents, as using wind moves against these Pokémon can backfire spectacularly if they survive the initial attack.
