Gooey
Gen VILowers attacking Pokémon's Speed by one stage on contact.
Gooey in Battle
Gooey lowers the Speed stat of any opposing Pokemon by one stage when it makes direct contact with the user. This creates a passive Speed control effect, punishing physical attackers for every contact move they use.
The Speed drop occurs after the damage is dealt, so the attacker still uses its full Speed for the triggering attack. Multi-hit contact moves trigger Gooey only once per use, not per individual hit. The ability functions identically to Tangling Hair.
Gooey is found on the Goomy evolutionary line (Goomy, Sliggoo, Goodra) and Wiglett/Wugtrio. Goodra is the primary competitive user, and the Speed reduction helps compensate for its middling Speed tier by progressively slowing down opponents that attack into it. Combined with Goodra's high Special Defense, it forces physical attackers to choose between dealing contact damage and losing Speed.
