Aftermath in Battle

Aftermath inflicts damage equal to 1/4 of the attacker's maximum HP when the Pokemon with this ability is knocked out by a move that makes direct contact. This serves as a final act of retaliation, punishing physical attackers for delivering the finishing blow.

The damage only triggers on contact moves, so ranged attacks like Flamethrower or Thunderbolt will not activate Aftermath even if they knock out the Pokemon. The ability also does not activate if the Pokemon faints from indirect damage such as poison, weather, or entry hazards.

Aftermind is commonly found on Poison and Ghost-type Pokemon like Electrode, Drifblim, and Skuntank, making it a useful deterrent in battle. The opponent must weigh the cost of losing a quarter of their HP when going for the knockout with a physical move.
