The ability has remained mechanically consistent since its introduction in Generation 3, though its competitive impact has fluctuated based on the metagame's relationship with evasion-based strategies. Sand Veil is particularly notable on powerful Ground-types like Garchomp and Gliscor, where the combination of sandstorm immunity and enhanced evasion can create frustrating defensive walls.
