Arena Trap
Gen IIIWhile this Pokémon is in battle, opposing Pokémon cannot flee or switch out. Flying-type Pokémon and Pokémon in the air, e.g. due to Levitate or Magnet Rise, are unaffected. Pokémon with Run Away can still flee. Pokémon can still switch out with the use of a move or item. Overworld: If the lead Pokémon has this ability, the wild encounter rate is doubled.
Arena Trap in Battle
Arena Trap prevents all opposing Pokemon from fleeing or switching out while the Pokemon with this ability is on the field. This trapping effect makes it an extremely powerful ability for eliminating specific threats that would otherwise switch to safety.
Flying-type Pokemon and any Pokemon that is airborne — whether through Levitate, Magnet Rise, or Telekinesis — are completely immune to Arena Trap. Pokemon holding a Shed Shell or using moves like U-turn, Volt Switch, Baton Pass, or Parting Shot can also escape. Ghost-type Pokemon became immune to trapping effects starting in Generation VI.
Prior to Generation VIII, Arena Trap also had an overworld effect: if the lead Pokemon in the party had this ability, the wild Pokemon encounter rate was doubled. This overworld effect was later removed. Arena Trap is found exclusively on the Diglett and Dugtrio evolutionary line, as well as Trapinch.
