Cotton Down

Cotton Down activates whenever the Pokemon is hit by a damaging move. Upon taking damage, it scatters cotton fibers that lower the Speed stat of all other Pokemon on the field by one stage — both opponents and allies alike. This makes it a field-wide Speed debuff triggered by any incoming attack.

The Speed drop affects every Pokemon in battle except the Cotton Down user itself. In double battles, this includes the user's own partner, which requires careful team building to mitigate. Pokemon with Clear Body, White Smoke, or similar protective abilities are immune to the Speed reduction.

Cotton Down is found on Gossifleur and Eldegoss, Grass-type Pokemon introduced in Generation VIII. While the persistent Speed lowering can be disruptive, the indiscriminate nature of the effect — hitting allies as well — limits its competitive viability, particularly in doubles formats.
