Toxic Debris in Battle

Toxic Debris is a defensive ability that automatically sets one layer of Toxic Spikes on the opponent's side of the field whenever the user takes damage from a physical move. This creates a unique form of passive battlefield control, as every physical attack against the Pokémon becomes a double-edged sword for the attacker. The ability triggers regardless of whether the physical move actually deals damage, meaning even attacks that are resisted or reduced by defensive boosts will still activate the spike-laying effect.

The ability only responds to moves classified as physical attacks, meaning special moves and status moves will not trigger Toxic Debris. This creates an interesting dynamic where opponents must carefully consider their attack choices, as repeated physical assaults will gradually build up layers of entry hazard punishment for their team. The Toxic Spikes function exactly as they would if set by the move itself, poisoning grounded Pokémon that switch in and being removed by Poison-types or Rapid Spin users.

Glimmora has emerged as the primary competitive user of this ability, leveraging its unique Rock/Poison typing and access to Stealth Rock to become a formidable hazard stacker. The ability transforms what would normally be Glimmora's physical frailty into a strategic advantage, discouraging physical attackers while enabling powerful defensive pivoting strategies that can quickly overwhelm teams lacking proper hazard removal.
