Volt Absorb

Gen III
Effect

Whenever an Electric-type move hits this Pokémon, it heals for 1/4 of its maximum HP, negating any other effect on it. This ability will not take effect if this Pokémon is Ground-type and thus immune to Electric moves. Electric moves will ignore this Pokémon's Substitute. This effect includes non-damaging moves, i.e. Thunder Wave.

Volt Absorb in Battle

Volt Absorb provides complete immunity to Electric-type moves while simultaneously converting them into healing energy, restoring 25% of the user's maximum HP whenever struck by any Electric attack. This defensive ability negates all effects of the incoming Electric move, whether it's a damaging attack like Thunderbolt or a status move like Thunder Wave. The healing trigger works even against moves that would normally bypass typical defensive measures, as Electric moves will ignore the Pokemon's Substitute when targeting a Volt Absorb user.

The ability has one notable limitation: it becomes inactive on Ground-type Pokemon, since their natural type immunity to Electric moves takes precedence. This means dual-type Pokemon that are part Ground cannot benefit from Volt Absorb's healing effect against Electric attacks. The ability treats all Electric-type moves equally, making it particularly valuable against status moves like Thunder Wave that other Electric immunities might not fully counter.

Competitively, Volt Absorb serves as both a defensive tool and potential setup opportunity, allowing Pokemon like Jolteon to safely switch into predicted Electric attacks while gaining health in the process. The fossil Pokemon Dracozolt and Arctozolt can leverage this ability to gain momentum against Electric-type coverage moves, while Pawmot can use it to maintain longevity in battle. The guaranteed healing makes Volt Absorb users excellent checks to Electric-type attackers and valuable pivots in team compositions.
