Gen VIIWhen this Pokémon uses a Normal moves, that move is Electric its power is 1.2×.
Galvanize in Battle
Galvanize transforms all Normal-type moves into Electric-type attacks while providing a 20% power boost, making it a potent offensive ability that can catch opponents off guard. When a Pokémon with Galvanize uses moves like Body Slam, Double-Edge, or Explosion, these attacks become Electric-type and receive the 1.2× damage multiplier, effectively turning neutral coverage moves into STAB-equivalent attacks with bonus power. This type conversion occurs before other calculations, meaning the moves will be super effective against Water and Flying types while being resisted by Electric, Grass, Ground, and Dragon types.
The ability is exclusively found on the Alolan Geodude evolutionary line, giving these Rock/Electric types access to powerful Electric attacks they wouldn't normally learn. This is particularly notable for moves like Explosion, which becomes a devastating Electric-type nuke with the power boost. The type change also means these moves can benefit from Electric-type damage modifiers and will trigger abilities like Lightning Rod or Motor Drive when used against Pokémon that possess them.
Competitively, Galvanize has seen limited use primarily due to the restricted distribution among the Geodude line. However, when utilized effectively, it provides excellent coverage and surprising power, especially on Alolan Golem which can leverage moves like Double-Edge for significant damage output while maintaining the Rock typing's natural bulk.
