Innards Out in Battle

Innards Out is a revenge ability that activates when the Pokemon faints from a direct attack. Upon being knocked out, the Pokemon deals damage to the attacker equal to the amount of HP it had remaining just before the final blow landed. This is not percentage-based — it is the raw HP number, meaning a Pyukumuku with 40 HP remaining before the killing hit will deal exactly 40 damage back to the attacker.

This creates a unique strategic dynamic where the opponent is punished more for overkilling and where the Innards Out user benefits from surviving at high HP before going down. Combined with moves like Pain Split to manipulate HP values, or a Focus Sash to guarantee surviving at 1 HP (thus capping the revenge damage at 1), players can use Innards Out in creative ways. Introduced in Generation VII, this ability is exclusive to Pyukumuku — a single Pokemon with high defenses but virtually no offensive moves, making Innards Out one of its only reliable ways to deal damage.
