Grassy Surge
Gen VIIWhen this Pokémon enters battle, it changes the terrain to Grassy Terrain.
Grassy Surge in Battle
Grassy Surge automatically sets Grassy Terrain when the Pokemon enters battle. Grassy Terrain lasts for five turns (eight with Terrain Extender) and provides several effects: Grass-type moves deal 1.3x damage for grounded Pokemon, all grounded Pokemon recover 1/16 of their max HP at the end of each turn, and the moves Earthquake, Magnitude, and Bulldoze have their power halved.
The terrain affects all grounded Pokemon on the field, meaning opponents also benefit from the HP recovery and Grass-type boost. The Earthquake power reduction is particularly significant in competitive play, as it weakens one of the most common and powerful moves in the game.
Grassy Surge is found on Tapu Bulu and the Grookey line (Rillaboom being the primary competitive user). Rillaboom's combination of Grassy Surge and the priority move Grassy Glide (which gains +1 priority under Grassy Terrain) creates a formidable offensive and supportive presence, making it one of the most used Pokemon in competitive formats.
