천진 (Unaware)

Unaware creates a unique battlefield dynamic by allowing its user to completely ignore stat modifications when calculating damage output and accuracy. When a Pokemon with Unaware attacks, it treats the target as if it has no stat boosts or drops whatsoever, essentially resetting all modifiers to neutral for damage calculations. This means a +6 Attack Swords Dance sweeper deals the same damage to an Unaware user as if it had no boosts at all. The ability also works in reverse when the Unaware Pokemon attacks, ignoring defensive boosts like Iron Defense or evasion increases from Double Team.

The ability has some notable mechanical exceptions that preserve game balance. Speed modifications remain fully functional, so Unaware Pokemon can still be outsped by boosted opponents. Additionally, moves like Punishment and Stored Power calculate their power based on actual stat changes present, making them potentially devastating against Unaware users who might otherwise wall setup sweepers. Interestingly, when an Unaware Pokemon damages itself through confusion, its own stat modifications apply normally to that self-inflicted damage.

In competitive play, Unaware serves as a powerful anti-setup tool, particularly valuable on defensive Pokemon like Clefable, Quagsire, and the newer Clodsire. These Pokemon can wall even the most boosted physical attackers, forcing opponents to rely on coverage moves, status conditions, or special attacks to break through. The ability's evolution through generations clarified its one-way nature, confirming that it only ignores opponents' modifications when the Unaware Pokemon is the one attacking.
