까칠한피부 (Rough Skin)

Rough Skin punishes opposing Pokemon that dare to make physical contact, dealing damage equal to one-eighth of the attacker's maximum HP whenever they use a contact move. This ability has remained mechanically unchanged since its introduction in Generation 3, consistently providing a defensive deterrent against physical attackers. The recoil damage occurs immediately after the contact move resolves, meaning even if the Rough Skin user faints from the attack, the opponent will still take the punishing damage.

The ability's competitive impact is most notably felt through Garchomp, where Rough Skin serves as both a defensive tool and a means of wearing down common physical threats like Landorus-Therian and Rillaboom. The cumulative damage from repeated contact can quickly add up, potentially putting opponents in range of priority moves or forcing them to reconsider their attack patterns. Pokemon like Sharpedo also benefit from this passive damage, as it complements their naturally aggressive playstyles by punishing revenge killers.

Contact moves trigger Rough Skin regardless of whether they deal damage, meaning even moves that miss due to abilities like Sand Veil will still cause the user to take recoil damage if contact was attempted. This makes Rough Skin particularly valuable against U-turn users and other hit-and-run tactics, as the passive damage can accumulate over multiple switches and gradually wear down the opposing team.
