This means a single use of Swords Dance, which normally provides +2 Attack stages, would grant a Simple Pokemon +4 Attack stages. The same principle applies to negative stat changes, making moves like Intimidate particularly devastating as they would drop Attack by two full stages instead of one.
Despite this doubling effect, the final result is still bound by the standard -6 to +6 stage limits that govern all Pokemon battles. This creates an interesting mechanical quirk where a Simple Pokemon can theoretically accumulate stat changes beyond the normal ±3 range, but only the first three stages in either direction actually provide any benefit after doubling. For example, if a Simple Pokemon somehow received four stages of Attack boosts, it would still cap out at the maximum +6 effective stages, with the fourth stage providing no additional benefit.
Competitively, Simple has seen limited use due to the Pokemon that possess it. Bibarel has occasionally appeared in niche strategies that capitalize on its access to moves like Curse and Swords Dance, allowing it to quickly reach maximum Attack and potentially sweep unprepared teams.
