In competitive play, Swarm creates interesting risk-reward scenarios where trainers must weigh the benefits of the damage boost against the vulnerability of low HP. Pokémon like Volcarona can become incredibly threatening when Swarm activates, as moves like Bug Buzz or Fiery Dance gain significant power. The ability works especially well on bulky Bug-types such as Heracross, which can potentially survive at low HP long enough to capitalize on the boost, or on naturally frail but powerful attackers like Scyther that might find themselves in Swarm range frequently.
