The ability does have a notable limitation that opponents can still forcibly consume Berries through offensive moves like Bug Bite and Pluck, which allows the attacking Pokémon to steal and eat the target's Berry. This creates an interesting dynamic where Unnerve doesn't completely shut down Berry-based strategies but forces players to approach them differently.

Competitively, Unnerve finds its niche as a disruptive tool on powerful attackers like Mewtwo and Tyranitar, where the psychological pressure complements their offensive presence. The ability is particularly valuable against stall teams and bulky setup sweepers that depend on reliable Berry activation for survivability. While not as universally applicable as other abilities, Unnerve can swing matchups by forcing opponents to rely on alternative recovery methods or risk being caught without their expected defensive safety nets.
