Propeller Tail is a specialized ability introduced in Generation 8 that allows the user to bypass moves and abilities that would normally redirect or draw in their attacks. When a Pokemon with Propeller Tail uses a move, it completely ignores redirection effects from opposing abilities like Storm Drain, Lightning Rod, and Volt Absorb, as well as moves such as Follow Me and Rage Powder. This means the Pokemon can target whichever opponent it chooses without being forced to attack a different target.
The ability proves particularly valuable in doubles and multi-battle formats where redirection is a common strategy. Pokemon like Amoonguss with Rage Powder or Togekiss with Follow Me cannot force a Propeller Tail user to attack them instead of their intended target. This makes the ability especially potent for precision strikes against specific threats or for breaking through protective strategies that rely on drawing attacks away from frailer teammates.
Barraskewda, the most competitively relevant Pokemon with this ability, benefits significantly from Propeller Tail's mechanics. As a high-speed physical attacker, Barraskewda can reliably target and eliminate specific threats without worrying about redirection interference. This gives it a unique niche in formats where opposing teams attempt to control battle flow through move redirection, making it an effective anti-support tool in the right circumstances.
