The ability activates automatically whenever the Pokemon uses a qualifying move, making it a reliable offensive enhancement that doesn't require any setup or specific conditions.

The competitive impact of Strong Jaw varies significantly depending on the Pokemon that possesses it. Dracovish became notorious in competitive play largely due to this ability's interaction with Fishious Rend, creating a devastating combination when combined with Choice Scarf or other speed control. Tyrantrum benefits from the boost to its STAB Crunch and coverage moves like Fire Fang and Ice Fang, while Drednaw can leverage the enhanced power of Crunch and the elemental fangs for additional coverage options.

Since its introduction in Generation 6, Strong Jaw has remained mechanically unchanged, consistently providing the same 1.5× multiplier to biting moves.
