Sap Sipper provides complete immunity to Grass-type moves while simultaneously converting that defensive advantage into offensive momentum. When a Pokemon with this ability is targeted by any Grass-type attack, it takes no damage whatsoever and instead receives a one-stage boost to its Attack stat. This immunity applies regardless of the move's power, accuracy, or additional effects, making it an exceptionally reliable defensive tool against Grass-type threats.

The ability's competitive utility extends beyond simple type immunity, as the Attack boost can quickly transform defensive scenarios into offensive opportunities. Pokemon like Goodra and Zebstrika can pivot into predicted Grass moves to gain immediate offensive pressure, while Gogoat creates an interesting dynamic as a Grass-type that's immune to its own typing. The ability also provides valuable team support by offering safe switch-in opportunities against common Grass moves like Spore, Sleep Powder, or powerful attacks like Power Whip.

One important mechanical note is that Sap Sipper negates all effects of the Grass move, not just damage. This means status moves like Spore or Leech Seed will fail entirely, and the Pokemon won't suffer any secondary effects from damaging Grass moves.
