スターミーは第1世代で登場したみず/エスパータイプのポケモンです。合計種族値（BST）は520で、なぞのポケモンに分類され、ヒトデマン → スターミーの進化系統に属します。
対戦では、スターミーはNatDex tierに位置し、使用率は0.01%です。主な特性ははっこう と しぜんかいふく と アナライズで、万能なチームメンバーとして活躍できます。 スターミーはでんき, くさ, むし, ゴースト, あくタイプの技が弱点のため、これらを意識した対策が必要です。
