Pixilate transforms all of the user's Normal-type moves into Fairy-type moves while simultaneously boosting their power by 30%. This ability fundamentally changes how Pokemon approach their movesets, converting reliable Normal-type attacks like Hyper Voice, Quick Attack, and Return into powerful Fairy-type alternatives that can threaten Dragon, Dark, and Fighting-types. The power boost makes these converted moves significantly stronger than their original versions, creating a compelling offensive presence.

When Pixilate activates, the converted moves gain all the properties of Fairy-type attacks, including type effectiveness matchups and interactions with abilities like Flash Fire or Storm Drain that might absorb or redirect Fairy-type moves. The ability only affects moves that are naturally Normal-type, so moves that become Normal-type through other means, such as Normalize, won't be affected by Pixilate. Additionally, the conversion happens before other damage calculations, meaning the boosted Fairy-type move interacts normally with items like Pixie Plate.

Sylveon serves as the primary example of Pixilate's competitive utility, transforming into a formidable special attacker capable of firing off devastating Hyper Voices that few Pokemon can comfortably switch into. The combination of reliable accuracy, decent Base Power, and the 1.3× multiplier makes Pixilate an ability that can define a Pokemon's entire battle strategy, turning what might otherwise be neutral coverage moves into powerful STAB alternatives.
