Pompa (Water Bubble)

Water Bubble is a remarkably powerful defensive and offensive ability that transforms its bearers into formidable Water-type threats. The ability provides three distinct benefits: incoming Fire-type moves deal only half damage, outgoing Water-type moves have their power doubled, and the Pokemon cannot be burned. If a Pokemon with Water Bubble somehow becomes burned through an indirect method, the burn status is immediately cured upon gaining the ability.

The defensive component makes Fire-type attacks significantly less threatening, effectively granting a resistance that stacks with existing type matchups. More impressively, the offensive boost doubles the base power of all Water-type moves, making even modest attacks hit with tremendous force. This multiplicative boost applies before other damage calculations, meaning it synergizes exceptionally well with items like Life Orb or Choice Band.

Araquanid benefits most from this ability in competitive play, as its naturally high Attack stat combined with Water Bubble's doubling effect makes moves like Liquidation and Aqua Jet devastatingly powerful. The burn immunity also provides valuable protection against status moves and abilities like Flame Body. While only available to the Dewpider evolution line, Water Bubble single-handedly elevates these otherwise modest Pokemon into legitimate offensive threats, particularly in lower tiers where Araquanid can overwhelm opponents with its enhanced Water-type attacks while shrugging off Fire-type revenge attempts.
