Puderabwehr (Shield Dust)

Gen III
Effekt

This Pokémon is immune to the extra effects of moves used against it. An extra effect is a move's chance, listed as an "effect chance", to inflict a status ailment, cause a stat change, or make the target flinch in addition to the move's main effect. For example, Thunder Shock's paralysis is an extra effect, but Thunder Wave's is not, nor are Knock Off's item removal and Air Cutter's increased critical hit rate.

Puderabwehr im Kampf

Shield Dust provides a valuable layer of protection by completely negating the secondary effects of moves that target its user. When an opponent uses an attack with a chance to inflict status conditions, cause stat changes, or induce flinching, Shield Dust blocks these additional effects while still allowing the move's primary damage or main effect to occur normally. For instance, a Pokémon with Shield Dust hit by Thunder Shock will take the electric damage but cannot be paralyzed by the move's 10% paralysis chance. However, the ability only protects against effects with listed "effect chances" – moves like Thunder Wave that guarantee paralysis as their primary purpose, or Knock Off's guaranteed item removal, will still function normally against Shield Dust users.

This ability proves particularly valuable in competitive play where many common moves carry annoying secondary effects. Popular attacks like Scald's burn chance, Air Slash's flinch rate, and various moves' stat-dropping effects become significantly less threatening when facing Shield Dust Pokémon. The immunity extends to flinching, making Shield Dust users reliable against faster opponents using moves like Fake Out or high critical hit ratio attacks with flinch chances.

Among its notable users, Ribombee and Frosmoth benefit most competitively, as their offensive roles are enhanced by the protection from disruptive secondary effects that could otherwise cripple their sweeping potential or utility moves. The ability has remained mechanically consistent since its Generation 3 introduction, providing reliable and predictable protection that savvy players can build around.
