Fischschwarm im Kampf

Schooling is a signature ability exclusive to Wishiwashi that creates one of the most dramatic form changes in competitive Pokemon. When Wishiwashi reaches level 20 or higher and maintains 25% or more of its maximum HP, it automatically transforms into its formidable Schooling Form at the start of battle and at the beginning of each turn. This transformation is mandatory and cannot be prevented through typical ability suppression methods like Gastro Acid or Skill Swap, as Schooling cannot be replaced, copied, or nullified by any means.

The mechanical trigger is straightforward but creates interesting strategic considerations. If Wishiwashi's HP drops below the 25% threshold during battle, it will revert to its weak Solo Form at the start of the next turn, regardless of any healing that occurs mid-turn. Conversely, if a Solo Form Wishiwashi is healed above 25% HP, it will transform back to Schooling Form when the next turn begins. This creates a clear breakpoint that opponents can exploit by dealing precise damage to force the form change.

In competitive play, Schooling transforms Wishiwashi from one of the frailest Pokemon into a defensive powerhouse with exceptional bulk and respectable offensive stats. The ability's immunity to suppression makes it reliable, though the HP threshold means that once Wishiwashi is worn down, it becomes extremely vulnerable. Smart players often use pivoting moves or protective strategies to maintain the crucial HP threshold and keep Wishiwashi in its powerful Schooling Form.
