Le abilità Pokémon

Le abilità Pokemon sono effetti passivi posseduti da ogni Pokemon. Introdotte nella Generazione III (Ruby & Sapphire), aggiungono un livello strategico alle lotte con vantaggi o svantaggi automatici senza richiedere uno spazio mossa. Capire quale abilità ha un Pokemon e come interagisce con il metagame è fondamentale per creare squadre competitive.

Abilità normali e Abilità Nascoste

Ogni specie di Pokemon può avere una o due abilità normali e un'Abilità Nascosta. Le abilità normali si ottengono normalmente catturando o allevando Pokemon. Le Abilità Nascoste, introdotte nella Generazione V, richiedono metodi speciali, come le Max Raid Battles in Sword & Shield, le catene SOS in Sun & Moon o l'uso di una Ability Patch.

Impatto competitivo delle abilità

Le abilità possono determinare la validità competitiva di un Pokemon. Intimidate è una delle più influenti e riduce l'Attacco dell'avversario all'entrata. Le abilità che attivano il meteo, come Drizzle (Pelipper) e Drought (Torkoal), definiscono interi archetipi di squadra. Abilità che aumentano la Velocità, come Speed Boost (Blaziken), e abilità del terreno, come Electric Surge (Tapu Koko), plasmano il panorama competitivo.

Modifiche alle abilità tra le generazioni

Game Freak modifica regolarmente le abilità tra le generazioni. Alcuni Pokemon ricevono nuove Abilità Nascoste, mentre quelle esistenti possono ricevere potenziamenti o depotenziamenti.
