About Poke Balls
Poke Balls are the fundamental tools for catching wild Pokemon. From the basic Poke Ball to the legendary Master Ball, each ball type offers different catch rates and special effects. Choosing the right ball can mean the difference between catching and losing a rare encounter.
Catch Rate Mechanics
Each Poke Ball has a catch rate multiplier applied during the capture formula. The standard Poke Ball has a 1x rate, Great Ball 1.5x, and Ultra Ball 2x. The Master Ball bypasses the formula entirely with a guaranteed catch. Timer Balls and Net Balls offer situational bonuses that can outperform Ultra Balls.
Competitive Relevance
While Poke Balls have no effect on battles in standard competitive formats, some players prefer specific balls for aesthetics. In-game, choosing cost-effective balls for each situation saves money and increases efficiency during long catch chains.
