About Species-Specific
Species-specific items provide powerful effects exclusive to certain Pokemon or groups. These items often define the competitive identity of their users, from Eviolite's defensive transformation to Light Ball's Pikachu-exclusive damage doubling.
Key Species Items
Eviolite doubles Defense and Sp. Def of not-fully-evolved Pokemon, making Chansey and Dusclops top-tier walls. Light Ball doubles Pikachu's Attack and Sp. Atk. Thick Club doubles Cubone/Marowak's Attack. Soul Dew boosted Latios/Latias in older generations.
Competitive Impact
Eviolite is by far the most influential species-specific item, with ~6% usage in OU. It makes entire NFE Pokemon viable: Chansey walls special attackers better than Blissey, and Dusclops becomes a premier Trick Room setter. Without Eviolite, many NFE Pokemon would be unviable.
