I Cristalli Z sono strumenti tenuti della Generazione VII che permettono di usare una volta le Mosse Z in lotta. Esistono 18 Cristalli Z specifici per tipo e vari Cristalli Z specifici per specie. Le Mosse Z infliggono danni devastanti o potenti aumenti di stato, capaci di ribaltare una lotta in un turno.
Cristalli Z di tipo
Ognuno dei 18 tipi Pokémon ha un Cristallo Z corrispondente, che trasforma una mossa di quel tipo in una Mossa Z. Le mosse fisiche diventano Mosse Z fisiche; quelle speciali, Mosse Z speciali. La potenza base dipende dalla mossa originale e la maggior parte delle Mosse Z raggiunge 175-200 di potenza.
Mosse Z di stato
Usare un Cristallo Z con una mossa di stato conferisce un effetto bonus prima dell'esecuzione della mossa. Z-Swords Dance dà +1 in Attacco oltre al +2 di Swords Dance. Z-Memento cura completamente il Pokémon entrante. Queste combo crearono opportunità strategiche uniche in Gen VII.
