Poison Touch grants a 30% chance to inflict poison on the target whenever the user makes contact with a move. The poisoning effect is considered an additional effect, meaning it can be blocked by abilities like Shield Dust, and it triggers before other contact-based abilities such as Mummy can take effect.

The ability has remained mechanically unchanged since its introduction in Generation 5, consistently providing that 30% activation rate across all generations. This makes Poison Touch particularly valuable on Pokemon that frequently use contact moves, as it can gradually chip away at the opponent's health while dealing direct damage.
